Episode Bigger Than Me: The Speke Origin Story

Listen... most businesses start with a spreadsheet, a mid-life crisis, or a really expensive MBA.
Mine started at an animal shelter.
Specifically, Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) in Houston.
I didn't walk in there thinking, "Hey, today is the day I launch a global podcast production company." I walked in there because my heart was open, my couch was empty, and I had no idea that two shelter dogs were about to hijack my entire life.
This is the story of things that were never supposed to happen, happening anyway. And it’s the reason Speke Podcasting exists today.
The Hijack: Meet Sparrow and Zeke
We weren't looking for a business plan. We were looking for a family member.
But then we met Sparrow and Zeke.

Sparrow was this burst of energy, a little bird-like soul that just wanted to belong. Zeke? Zeke was the calm. The wisdom. He was the dog that looked at you and somehow knew exactly what you were thinking before you did. (RIP Zeke, you were the best of us).
They didn't just join the family. They took over. They hijacked my heart, my couch, and eventually, my professional identity.
I realized something watching them settle into our home: The best things in life aren't planned. They’re recognized.
I recognized that these two creatures, who had been "voiceless" in a shelter cage, had more personality and more to say than half the people I knew on the radio. They just needed someone to give them the space to do it.
The Birth of SP-EKE
When it came time to name this venture, I didn't want some corporate, soulless title like "Strategic Audio Solutions." Gross. No thanks.
I wanted something that meant something.
So, I took SP (from Sparrow) and EKE (from Zeke).
Speke.
It’s not just a clever spelling of "speak." It’s a tribute to the two beings who reminded me that everyone, and I mean everyone, deserves to have their story heard.
Whether you’re a high-integrity brand, a nonprofit fighting the good fight, or an expert with a message that could actually change a life, you’re often just like a shelter dog: you’ve got the goods, but you’re stuck behind a cage of bad tech, zero strategy, and the "gatekeepers" of traditional media.
I built Speke Podcasting to break those bars down.
Why We Do What We Do (Beyond the Ego)
Most people start a podcast because they want to hear themselves talk. That’s an ego project. We don’t do ego projects.
If you’re looking for a podcast production company that will just nod and smile while you ramble into a $20 mic about your morning coffee, keep walking. There are plenty of freelancers who will take your money for that.
Speke is for the people who are serious. The people who know that a podcast is a media asset, not a hobby.

We provide podcast production services that fuse strategy, production, and coaching into one ruthless filter: Does this episode build trust, authority, and demand?
If it doesn’t, it doesn’t make the cut.
We treat your voice with the same intensity I feel when I talk about animal rescue. Because at the end of the day, if you have a message that can help people and you aren't sharing it effectively, that’s a damn shame.
Giving a Voice to the Voiceless
My obsession with the day our city’s homeless pet population finally hits zero isn't just a "nice-to-have" value. It’s the core of the brand.
Animals don’t get a vote. They don’t get a PR team. They are the definition of the voiceless.
If there is one thing I know how to do, it is to make sure the right stories get heard. That’s why we support organizations that fight for those who can’t fight for themselves. It’s why "Speke Nation" is about more than just audio, it’s about impact.

It Was Never Supposed to Happen
If you told me ten years ago I’d be running a podcasting powerhouse named after two rescue dogs, I would have laughed.
But that’s the beauty of it.
The best chapters of your life are usually the ones you didn't outline. You just have to be smart enough to listen when the opportunity barks. (Yeah, I said it. No regrets.)
If you’re ready to stop waiting for traditional media to "pick" you and you’re ready to turn your voice into a sharp-edged asset, we should talk. We’ll bring the strategy; you bring the integrity.
